Forging Partnerships in Statistical Training

These workshops provide a forum to identify strategies and corresponding coordination mechanisms to effectively address demand for training in official statistics in Asia and the Pacific.
Recent partnerships have involved the member states of Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia and India. Strong partnerships continue to exist with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Tokushima University, University of South Pacific amongst others.

The workshop provides an opportunity to participants to deepen the understanding of gender statistics for policy formulation and planning as well as for the implementation and monitoring of national development strategies and specific gender equality and women’s empowerment commitments.

The workshop aims to organize a network of training partners for agricultural and rural statistics as a sub-group of the Asia-Pacific Network for the Coordination of Statistical Training (the Network) which is mandated by the ESCAP Committee on Statistics and was established in April 2014 with 24 members.

- Previous workshops have identified the need to strengthen co-ordination of training within countries, and to strengthen the co-ordination of training provided by international and regional organisations.

- This 4th workshop on "Forging Partnerships in Statistical Training in Asia and the Pacific", will build on those previous discussions and the more recent experiences of across the region, to identify how the region can be more effective in the provision and use of statistical training.

- To propose strategies to develop relevant country training programme in statistics

- To exchange views on workable coordination mechanism for training programme in official statistics at the country level.

- To review the recommendations of the first workshop on "Forging Partnerships in Statistical Training in Asia and the Pacific";

- To exchange views on future strategies for more coordinated systems of training in official statistics, as recommended in the independent evaluation of SIAP;

- To identify feasible interactive mechanisms among the organizations involed in statistical training; and

- To prepare an initial set of quality guidelines for assesing statistical training activities, in preparation for the accreditation and certification of these.

25 to 26 November 2002 | Bangkok, Thailand

- To explore possible arrangements for future cooperation and collaboration in the training of official statisticians in the region, with emphasis on structural, lasting partnerships aiming to enhance the statistical training of participants from a multiple number of countries.
